City of Dumas Business & Economy

The City of Dumas is populated by approximately 13,530 people.  The three major economic forces in Dumas and the surrounding areas are oil, farming and ranching.

Dumas/Moore county has passed water bond/school bond/hospital district bond/and storm drainage system bonds in the last several years.  Just recently the city passed a bond issue for a state of the art aquatic center scheduled for completion in early August 2009.  This should provide a good indicator to you as to the progressiveness of our community.

Landfill Disposal Rate

$36.00 per ton for waste received at the City’s landfill for disposal, subject to the approval of the City Manager or his delegate.  City solid waste customers are allowed to dispose of waste free of charge at the landfill as long as the waste does not exceed their normal waste volume (ex: 3 cubic yards per week for residential customers).  There will not be a charge for waste that is separated and that does not go into the City’s landfill. Residential customers with a building permit are allowed to dispose of their construction waste at the ladfill free of charge. (See Ord. 1029)
